The Formation of Chelmer Valley Car Meet

Our first meeting was in May 2003, as a small group after our annual trip to France, after much searching by Michael and I given the tough job of visiting local pubs in mid Essex to find a suitable venue for enthusiasts to meet.

The Lodge Inn was most welcoming and seemed to tick all the boxes for us.

So in May 2003 a group of 12 friends namely Colin, Michael, Pat and Mike, Stan and Jan, Reg, Brian, Colin and Stuart, Richard and Jan met for the first time as The Chelmer Valley Car Meet.

We had all been involved with a large car clubs previously and had organised both local club events, commercial ones, charity runs and even trips abroad.

So from these small beginnings we have grown to become one of the largest multi car meetings in the South East. In the summer we have had over 200 gathered on 1 night with an average of 60-100 most Thursday nights.

We are a friendly crowd and we act as an umbrella for 12 or so smaller car clubs who come to eat, or just chat and have a drink with other classic car enthusiasts. We have no annual fees or members just supporters who we encourage to join up to their own make car club. We have a database of 890 enthusiasts who we meet at various events during the year.

We do ask for their support at our Annual Show in June at Weald Park, our annual Charity Fun Run in April, Classics on the Common and by the Sea.
